Q: Trouble locating bearing for wheel of 2002 Hyundai Sonata. Do Hyundai bearings come with numbers on them?
Car has been in the shop since last week. They've ordered the bearing according to catalog, and its wrong - so they say the spindle has been changed apparently..however my brother in law says the bearings come with numbers imprinted on them which should make it easy to replace. The garage lady says Hyundai bearings don't come with numbers...anyway, they are down to the last bearing Hyundai makes and we are waiting for that part to come and hoping it is correct....I am wondering if this is just totally nuts or does this sound correct? Shouldn't they have just taken the bearing itself to an auto parts place and matched it up? Why is this so hard? Car was originally put in the shop for a new alternator, by the way.
A: Wheel bearings out on a 2002... how many miles are on the car? While it is not impossible for the wheel bearings to be bad, I have 180,000 miles on one of my cars and never replaced a wheel bearing. (car was bought new) Are they replacing the wheel bearing, or a joint for the front wheel drive? Or are you getting ripped off? Something doesn't sound right by what you are saying.
Q: 2002 Hyundai Sonata spark plug tightening specification?
does anyone know the spark plug tightening specification on the 2002 Sonata 2000cc
A: Just tighten it until it's tight, but not too tight. Between Snug and tight...
Q: How much for a power steering hose for a hyundai Sonata 2002? Chgo IL?
My car is leaking power steering fluid...I need to replace the worn hose...How much and where can I find this hose???
A: I had the power steering metal pipe leak problem from underside of my 2002 Sonata V6 in Aug '07. The pipe with replacement costed me $205 at the dealers.
Rubber hose should be a lot less and can be purchased at local parts stores ....
PS fluid is the regular off the self SPIII type.
Q: 2002 Hyundai Sonata problem with picking up speed. Whats could it be?
Ever since she got a tune-up, its been acting crazy. It seems to not pick up speed at times and its about to cut off. Is it the fuel coil, fuel injection, fuel pump, or is it something else?
A: It could be many things form a clogged fuel filter, bad injectors, dirty throttle body, bad plugs or wires. I would go back to the mechanic who did your work and have him correct the problem he either made or contributed to. Good luck.
Q: 2002 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L?
I have 2002 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L sedan. It has 90,000+ on it. Anyone own a sonata that is older than 2002?
If you are, how long do you think this car handle? All maintenances are done.
oh... please read before writing any comments. And 30,000 and die? My hyundai has 90,000+ and it hasn't died on me yet.
And please proof read before you post one.
This detail is written specifically to the second comment. Thanks.
A: well being a Hyundai mechanic i have worked on cars with the same sort of mileage. and a lot of them are still running fine and very clean. the only ones that are not are the ones where the owners have not keep up the services. but if there serviced regularly you will not have a problem with it.
Q: Sunroof/Moonroof on a 2002 Hyundai Sonata....?
How much would it cost to get a sunroof/moonroof installed on a 2002 Hyundai Sonata?
I live in Massachusetts-(if that will effect the price at all...i dunno) : - )
A: Check around for prices and also check their work. I wanted one put in and priced a job that I didn't like..(their work or the sunroof)... to get it done like factory was going to cost about $1000 and I still didn't like the sunroof (a cheap sunroof) This was Ziebart, and they also gave a different answer every time I talked to them about sunroof and remote starters. I found a place that did a great job and put in a much better sunroof for $650 and looks like a factory job. I've had people look at it that would know if it was a good job and they have all said it was a great job. So look around as you want the job done right. Wish I could show you the one I had put in as you would like the job and believe me this place gets a lot of my work now. Sunroofs, remote starters, radios, etc.

A: Your fuel filter is in the engine bay It's bolted to the bulk head on the right hand side it has one hose on top and one underneath it looks like a cylinder about the size of your fist.

Q: My cars check engine light came on for the first time... Hyundai Sonata 2002?
What does it mean? it came on for the first time last night...I have a 2002 hyundai Sonata, we checked for oil, and it still has plenty, its due for a change in about a week...Could that be it? Or what can you suggest! Help!!!
A: Did you get gas recently? When mine came on it was because i got gas the day before an the cap was not put on tight. I suggest taking off the gas cap. then put the cap back on, but when tightening the cap push down on the cap at the same time untill you hear/feel atleast three or more clicks. it might take a day or two untill everything resets it self. Other wise go to like an Auto zone or Advanced auto parts an they can do a free engine computer check and tell what what is wrong.. .Hope this helps
Q: 2002 Hyundai Sonata rough idle, poor acceleration?
My wifes 2002 Hyundai Sonata w/ 60,000 miles has a very rough idle, poor acceleration, stalling sitting at stop lights. Started off as a minor rough idle and has gotten very bad. The check engine light goes on and off so I can't get the OBD II codes pulled. I would start by replacing spark plugs but apparently you have to remove the intake manifold, and it's $300 to have done at the shop and the shop says they don't know for sure if that is going to fix it. Any suggestions? Isn't the care kinda young to need plugs/wires? O2 sensor maybe? Should I just pay to have a computer diagnosis? Please help.
seems to get worse as the car gets hotter
A: sounds familiar to the problem I had on my Hyundai Scoupe. I had to replace my fuel pump. It isn't that hard a job. All you have to do is drop the fuel tank. (run your vehicle till its almost empty) That hardest part is dropping the tank, everything else is real easy. Fuel pump runs about 150 bucks.
Good luck fixing your problem
Q: Answers for the 2002 Hyundai Sonata?
Everytime I start my 02 Sonata, it automatically goes on the outside air and not the in cabin circulated air. I have noticed the reverse in all other makes of automobile. Therefore, my question is, is this problem only unique to my 2002 Sonata or to Sonatas' as a whole.
A: Hyundai does not consider it a problem. It is how they designed it to work.
Q: Squeeling from timing belt area 2002 Hyundai Sonata.?
The sound comes and goes but is noticible inside the vehicle and is easy to pinpoint to the timing belt area. I would like to kow how seriouse this is? Whether its safe to drive? And whether I should attempt to repair it myself? The car has about 70000 miles on it. Thanks.
It really seems like the timing belt area, I understand they have teeth, but isn't there a tensioner pulley that could cause the timing belt to squeel?
A: Timing belts are enclosed and toothed so they don't slip/squeal.
Do you mean an accessory belt (A/C, alternator)?
Update: You seem sure it's the timing belt (with teeth). If the tensioner pulley stopped turning, then the belt would squeal constantly, overheat, and break. If its bearing is going bad, maybe, maybe, it would make the timing belt squeal when the tensioner pulley doesn't spin as fast as the belt. Seems doubtful to me, though.
And Momulle is right: don't take the timing belt off if you don't know how to rotate the pistons to the correct position again. This is master mechanic stuff.
Q: My 2002 Hyundai Sonata's door locks will unlock, but not lock again with the switch or controller, help please?
When I press the lock button on the driver side(no passenger switch) or the remote all that I hear is a click coming from the fuses I believe, but no locked doors. When I unlock I hear the same click but all the doors lock. How might I diagnose and fix this?
A: sound like you lock and unlock relays are bad the are on the dr side in the fuse panel on the back side there is a switch panel on the left side of the steering wheel on the dash you need to take that out the you can see the relays the 2 on the right they are usally black it is best to replace both you don't need to remove lower dash if you have small hands but if you don't it is not to hard to do you should ck to see if they are still under warr they were coverd for 5yrs 60,000 mile just depends on in service date of veh
