Q: 2004 Hyundai Santa-Fe transmission issue?
So, I purchased a 2004 Hyundai Santa-Fe about a month ago with 120,000KM. Right off the bat I noticed that the shifts.. to me were a TAD rough, but that aside, specifically going into the last gear (3-4?) about half the time it seems to hesitate or very suddenly go into gear. This is not hugely noticeable but I have had a few cars with transmission problems and I want to nip this is the a$$. I took it to my mechanic and had everything checked. He said the fluid looked good and he felt nothing on the test drive. Looking good and being good are very different things so I ended up taking it back and got the transmission flushed. (No filter done). And he thought it could be a computer error so he took out and put the battery back in (this was at the first visit, the flush was at the second visit). SO the computer reset helped, and so did the flush, the problem is still there just not as frequent but it is still that same gear. SO a week later the Check Engine light came on so I naturally thought, "great, now I know what the problem is, this is probally it", took it to Hyundai and it turns out it is a bad O2 sensor which I have yet to replace. Has anyone ever had this before, or have a idea what it could be? I kind of think it might be a sensor, but having the computer scanned and showing no codes but the O2 makes me think otherwise. Like I said, I have had cars with transmission problems before, and this really does not feel like a mechanical problem. Thanks in advance! P.S. HYUNDAI FLUID was used in the flush. Thought I mentioned, it IS A AUTOMATIC

A: the gearbox or trans as you americans like to call it does not have a computer not on a santa-fe not unless its an auto which i doubt by what you said above. 3rd and 4th and also reverse gear is a common problem on these the only cure is to remove the gearbox (trans) strip it remove the primary and secondary shafts and replace 3rd and 4th gear sinchrow mesh. as for the light coming on for a manual gearbox there is none. the light that came on is for either engine abs airbag etc.; so if your mechanic said that he read the codes for the gearbox (trans) and its a manual well then my advise as a mechanic myself is too change mechanics go somewhere else.as for a filter on the trans there is none, only for the engine.

Q: Why isn't my turning fan working in my 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe?

A: FAN? if your talking about the cooling fan , well IT ONLY CUTS ON when the TEMP get to HIGH ! ! , prevents overheating, it does not cut on when you start the car.....

Q: What to do about a car surging forward while the brake pedal is pushed, it's a 2004 Santa Fe Hyundai?

A: If you take your car to have a mechanic work on it you will be taking it back and forth back and forth. Take your car to a Certified Automotive Technician!

Q: 2004 hyundai santa fe - where are all of the spark plugs - found 2 but that is it?

A: did you take off the engine cover they should be there and you dont have a rotor

Q: 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.4L lose of power, won't pull up hill, or go over 60mph. It will not rev over 3,500rpm
It will not pull it's self up a hill. It is a 5 speed manual. It will not go over 60mph on flat road. In neutral it will not rev over 3,500rpms. It has a little shutter at idle. It starts right up. If you push to much on the gas it starts to jerk and stops when you let off. It will also start to jerk going up a hill if you hold the gas in the same spot as it was before the hill. Their is not check engine light on!! If you have any suggestions on the problem let me know!! Thank you Robert!!

A: clogged catalytic converter

Q: My 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe is burning oil.?
I've aways changed the oil every 3000 miles. The car has 18,000 miles. There is no visible smoke from the exhaust nor oil leaks yet the car is using oil. After only 2200 miles on a recent oil change the dip stick showed almost no oil and the check oil light flickered. Thanks to all for your answers. I've always used the same auto shop for oil changes. They said they filled the last oil change by quart containers. So they checked for leaks and found none and suggested I take it in to the Hyundai dealer to have the engine checked. Yes the car has a 100,000 mile/ 10 year engine and drive train warranty. The car has had some engine knocking the last few thousand miles so I started using 89 octane..

A: I have the same problem with my 2.4L 2004 Kia Optima. I have about 55k on mine, but have had the problem for some time now. I guess I've just kind of 'dealt' with it because I don't feel like taking it in for a warranty claim. If you haven't had to have something fixed under warranty yet, I can tell you its a big hassle as the dealership will probably drag their feet. It took them a month to give me a new transmission when the first one went after 13k, so I can only imagine how long it'll take them to fix something like this. One time when I had my oil changed, I told the guy about it, and he said 'don't worry about, all cars burn oil.' I don't know how I feel about that statement, as I've never really had a problem with any of my other cars burning this much oil. I think they were just trying to avoid a major warranty claim. I've never noticed any blue smoke in my exhaust, but that can be hard to tell by yourself. I've always assumed it has a bad/improperly installed oil ring or valve seal causing oil to slowly leach into the cylinder. It does burn oil slowly; even when my dipstick shows no signs of oil, several quarts of oil still drain out when I change the oil myself. Maybe when the weather gets warmer and I can use my motorcycle for transportation, I'll reconsider taking it to the dealer; maybe I'll get a new engine out of it.

Q: How do you change the sparkplugs in a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe?

A: 4 or 6 cyl, if 4 then the one person is right its under a plastic cover that is not pointless it stop the wires from gettin any moisture or debri in them, if it is a 6 cyl then the intake plenum has to be removed to get the back 3 and the front 3 are very is to get to carefully turn the spark plug wire from side to side till it moves easy the gently pull the wire out you might have to use a little strength to get them out they get a little stuck after not being removed for a long time, if you do have 6 cyl let a pro do it it might cost more moeny if you dont

Q: Hyundai Santa Fe 2004?
is this a good car. hyundai started out with some pretty bad cars. have they gotten better and more reliable?

A: Its a very good car, check the owner reports on yahoo autos or edmunds.com for proof. Hyundai came under new management around 1999/2000 and totally changed the way they do business and build cars. Their products drastically improved over the last 7 years and now are ranked at the top 10 of 36 international brands for reliability.

Q: i am thinking about buying used Hyundai santa fe 2004.. is that a good idea?
comes with 5 yr warranty 60000 miles..3.5 lt engine ,fwd, 15000 $$$$ plus tax,,

A: Sounds good, I love the Santa Fe, for an SUV. Keep in mind gas might be an issue, I mean the 3.5 liter V6 and the weight... just keep that in mind. But remember, always buy the car you like.

Q: Hyundai Santa Fe A/C problem?
I have a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe with the 3.5L engine. It has an intermittent problem with the A/C blower - at times the air just trickles out of the vents no matter what setting the fan is on, yet other times it works perfectly. I've run it on high speed for an hour and it works fine - then two days later it will work properly for 20 minutes and then the problem will reoccur. I thought maybe the blower was dying but if it was, I would think it would work more inconsistently. Perhaps it's a loose connection somewhere in the system? Any ideas what might be causing this? I took it to a mechanic but of course it blew perfectly the whole time it was with him. I have not taken it to Hyundai yet ... I figure that's my next step. Any ideas what might be causing this?

A: try to check the air filter it might be dirty

Q: Hyundai Santa fe?
I am thinking about getting a Hyundai Santa Fe 2004, but don't know much about it! the one i am specifically looking at has only 31,000 miles on it and is only $8,995 which i have found is very good! but it is manual transmission and my dad said he would help teach me... anyway would this be a good car? does it have good gas mileage? is there anything i should know about this type of car?

A: Yes that is a very good price and it only has 31k, the Santa Fe is good car but remember to change the timing belt at 60,000 miles because the hyundai 2.4 liter engine is prone to engine damage if the timing belt is not changed in time, the gas mileage is around 23-25 mpg on the highway, the city is around 13-16 Mpg, 2004 is a perfect year no reliabilty issues.

Q: Santa Fe Overheating?
I have a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe that just started overheating the other day. We checked the coolant and it was almost empty, so we refilled it and it worked up until today when it started to overheat again and I checked, sure enough the coolant was almost empty again. A guy stopped to help me and said it was one of three things he thought... the thermostat, the water pump or the fan. My fan does not turn on when I start the car, so I'm not sure if it is that. There is nothing leaking from below that I can see. HELP!!!! What do you think it could be? Also, could you give estimates on how much you think it may cost to fix! Thanks so much everyone!

A: im guessing that 'something' that's leaking is the coolant. If your coolant is out, take it to a body shop immediately before the engine blows. Take it to the shop, it wouldn't cost much if it was a coolant tank problem. i don't know what is going on so take it to the dealer or a body shop and find out. :]

Q: How do I put my Hyundai Santa Fe into 4 wheel drive?
I have a 2004 GLS 4x4 and I have no clue how to put it into 4 wheel drive......SOOOOOOOOOOO if anyone could help me out here I would greatly appreciate it. thanks It does say 4WD on the back of it

A: Not all Santa Fe models came with all wheel drive. If yours has AWD it engages automatically if I'm not mistaken. Have you checked your owner's manual?
