Q: how do you replace a tailight bulb on a 2002 hyundai elantra?
i have opened the trunk and pulled the fabric casing off. there is a rubber stopper looking thing but all it allows you to see when you pull it off is the wiring. How do i get to the lighbulb. Do i unscrew the metal casing as well??

A: Open your trunk. Look behind where the light is. You should see plasic things you unscrew to pull the carpet back. Once you have the carpet pulled back you should be able to see the socket in the back of the light assembly. The is a little piece on it that you depress and then twist the plastic light socket usually counter clockwise. the light socket should pull out and the light will be attached to it. Then just pull the light out and put the new one in. Reverse the procedure to reinstall it. And your done.. Unless you see little nuts in holes behind the light. Then you might have to take the nuts off and pull the whole light assembly out from the outside of your car. And remove the bulb like I told you before.

Q: What else should I have replaced with the timing belt on a 2002 Hyundai Elantra GT (stick)?
Hello, I'm going in to have my timing belt replaced at the dealer on my Elantra with 68K on it. I tried talking to the their reps on the phone about this when I made the appt, but the way they answered my question made me think they had no idea what they were talking about. Hope the tech working on my car has more of a clue. Was wondering what items are sensible to have replaced at the time, such as belt tensioner, idler pulley or water pump, since I believe these all may be replaced easily when the timing belt is off? My concern is making sure one of these other components doesn't fail and cause the timing belt to break, ruining my interference engine even though the timing belt itself has been replaced often enough. Which one(s) are most important? Can anyone tell me more about this subject please?

A: Timing Belt & Water pump , and if you want it would be better to replace all the belts at once , that would make the job perfect !

Q: how good is the idea of buying a used 2002 model hyundai elantra gt?
with about 100k miles...does this model run more than 150k miles? what about the reliability?

A: I agree with post #2, before buying any used car that is not a certified used car you want to have a mechanic look the vehicle over for needed maintainence and repairs. I'd check the owners maintainence records and compare with the recommended maintainence schedule. Since they were averaging 18K miles a year its likely they were doing alot of highway driving, which is easier on the tranny/engine, but harder on the suspension/axles/bearings. You didn't tell us the asking price, but I don't think the car is worth more then $4000. The car can certainly go to 150K and even 200K if you take care of it and something major like the transmission doesn't need replacing. Considering a new Elantra will cost you about $15K, even if this car dies at 150K, getting a car to last 50K miles for only $4000 is a huge bargin in this world...plus the Elantra gets good gas mileage and will be cheap to insure.

Q: What do i torque the wheel lugs to for a 2002 Hyundai Elantra?

A: call the hyundai dealer and ask them or look in your owners manual at the torque specs.

Q: how do i remove air from a 2002 hyundai elantra cooling system?

A: You can do manual air bleed by filling it up, start and warm up engine, loosen cap and add coolant until there is no more bubble. The best and fast way is to use special tool. As Steve mentioned earlier, there is a tool to create vacuum in cooling system. The concept is similar to A/C system evacuation and recharge. You create vacuum in cooling system then open fill valve. Mixed coolant will be pushed into your cooling system. I use UVIEW AIRLIFT II (cheaper and easier to use than AIRLIFT I ) for many years. It is a clean no spilling mess job. You can refill and air bleed the system in less than 10 minutes. I prefer using the tool because manual bleeding many times causes the engine running too hot with air still strapped inside and spilling mess clean up after. Tool cost less than USD 100. The AIRLIFT tool was part of many vehicle factory tool at car dealer service department. visit Uview.com for more information http://uview.com/ProductPage.php?Category=Cooling+System+Service+Tools

Q: 2002 hyundai elantra for sale?
my sister just got her license and my parents are looking to buy her a car. my sister and i went to a dealership today and we saw a 2002 hyundai elantra for sale for $5,973. it was really nice; it had leather seats, cd player, etc. the only downside was that it had 100,000 miles on it. i think almost $6,000 is too much for a car that has that many miles. my sister and i are going back to look at it and talk to the dealer and see how much he will go down on it. how much do you guys think he would go down on it? $1,000? $2,000? i am not good with this stuff so if you could really help me out, i would really appreciate it! thanks :) we've looked at hondas and stuff but all we could really find were ones that were less than 3 years old and they're a lot more money than what my parents want to spend on a first car for my sister. the elantra is just a possibility

A: Ok I looked it up on KBB.com for you and found a price of $6,690 in Excellent condition... I think you should look there yourself though and get a price for your area you just plug in your zip code... don't worry you don't have to pay or register or even give your name out... all they ask for is your area and details about the car... and you can plug in the exact details... I went with the non-hatchback... but I'm not sure what you looked at... anyway I still think thats way too much for a 2002 hyundai.... Just so you know my last 2 cars I purchased were Honda... both Civics... and I loved them both.... Sold my two door for a four door... and I sold it to my Best Friend... and he's still driving it...

Q: how much would it cost to drive from charlotte nc to los angeles ca in a 2002 hyundai elantra?

A: It will cost you at least $270 for gasoline. Not including return trip or wear and tear on your car. Charlotte, NC to Los Angeles, CA is 2,427 miles if you go the way http://maps.google.com/ routes you. The average mile per gallon for that car is 30 for highway driving.* 2427 divided by 30 equals 80.9 gallons. 80.9 gallons times $3.332 (national average as of 4/7/08)**

Q: problems with 2002 Hyundai Elantra?
I drive a 2002 Hyundai Elantra, that has 122,000 miles on it, and i just got my altranator changed, and now its having shifting issues with my transmission, or atleast i think thats the problem because the RPM gauge is reads alot lower than it should when im going rather fast, and it shifts harder than it should, well i was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem before and if you have could u possibly tell me what was wrong with it

A: 1st, transmissions are not changed every 60,000 that has to be the dumbest comment ever almost. Transmissions are part of the power train warranty, companies wouldn't be having 100,000 mile and now lifetime warranties if they knew a part had to be replaced at $2500. Anyway, your transmission may be fine, when was the last time you had a transmission fluid flush? You should have a fluid flush every 30,000 miles, also check to make sure you have enough fluid. If those aren't the problem it still may be something that requires a tuneup rather then a transmission replacement. I advise you to take your car to a mechanic to diagnose the problem and catch up on any maintenance that's been neglected.
