This is a 2002 Hyundai Accent 1.5 litre Standard transmission.
A: Well, apparently you do have a leak or you would not be smelling it. You might check around the exhaust manifold and the oxygen sensors on the exhaust. also if the c-converter gets clogged it can cause the exhaust to back up into the car, but like I said, if you are smelling it, it's leaking somewhere.

A: Check local salvage yard who deal in late model cars. You may get lucky and find a good bumper of the right color. Check on-line salvage yards as well.

A: I can't help with price for a brand new one, but to save yourself some cash call some of the local wrecking yards. You could certainly find one there I'm sure.

A: That code doesn't make sense. Go back and have it scanned again. It should look something like P0300 or P1345.

I own a 2002 Hyundai Accent and have all the tools required to do a normal tune up. I do not have a repair guide since Chilton's does not make them past 1998. Here is my idea: By removing a bolt with a torque wrench is it possible to know the torque required for a bolt to be put back in by the amount of torque it took to remove it?
A: I don't suggest using a torque for removal because a) it may damage the tool. b) it may alter the calibration. c) you aren't guaranteed that it is the proper spec in the first place.
If you have a good relationship with your dealer, the parts or service department might take the time to look them up for you. They have access to all the specs via the shop manuals.

Hi, I'm looking to buy a car and found a 97 Hyundai Accent for $1000. It says it might need a new transmission soon, just wondering if it's worth this? Maybe I could talk down the price. What do you think?
A: If it is an automatic transmission, it won't be that expensive. A Hyundai reman trans from the factory will cost about $1100.00. Figure 6 hours labor (or so) at anywhere from $75 to $100 per hour, depending on where you live. So,if you had to put $1600 in the car, is that car worth $2600? If it's in good shape maybe so. Also ask the seller about the history of the timing belt. They are due for replacement every 60K, so if it's due you can figure another $400 or so.

A: Well, your best bet for a used car at a great price with a long life ahead of it and not much wear is a car 2-3 years old. So, a 2004/2005 Accent is probably going to be your best value right now. However, if for some reason the dealer still has a 2006 demo/new Accent on the lot you should be able to get it for well below invoice. The Accent is certainly a great starter car because its not too big or a gas hog, but is still safe and fun to drive around town. Plus of course its low price and long warranty make it a can't miss!
